Drake's 100th Relays Parade

"Height in Pride"
This is my favorite photo of a sequence of several similar shots. I like the matching, but yet slightly differing strides. I also like something about the way the photograph is "shaped" due to the angle of the strides combined with that of the flags. The magnolias in the background contribute to the warmth of the photograph. This photo looks amazing when it is desaturated, because it looks like an old fashioned photo of a traditional parade.

"Patience"
My favorite part about this photo is actually not the subject, but the subject's shadow, and especially the shape they make together. I also like the dominance of the color blue, and then a tiny bit of red with the shoes. The colors together give the photo a feeling of youth and energy. I also like the excited look on the little boy's face. No matter who or what rode by in the parade, he was grinning ear to ear.

"Trading Smiles"
In this photo, I love the look on the little boy's face. Balloon and sucker in hand, he is grinnning up at the clown, as only a child could. (I personally am not a fan of clowns.) I also like the symmetrical line of people in the background that create almost a border for the photographs. Finally, I like the dramatic difference in their height, and that the clown's face is hidden, since it would have been bright and distracting, taking some of the attention away from the boy's glee.

"Only as Old as You Dance"
What I like most about this photograph is the movement of the cloth. I like the way the light falls on it, and where the creases appear while it is moving. I also really like her expression, as she it totally comfortable and having fun walking down the street in this midriff-baring outfit. Finally, I like that there are no other subjects in the photo, so that the eye is drawn to her face and the dress instead.

"Gossiping Girl Scouts"
I think this photo is just okay, I'll admit. I like the row of four girls, sporting all of their girlscout badges. I also like, in this case, the busy-ness of the photograph. There is a lot going on, and a lot of colors. I also like how the flag is represented, as well as how you can see the giant paper cake that boasts the Relays' 100th birthday.

"Baubles"
Mostly, what I like about this photo is the blue and the white, and the cluster of balloons that takes over the photograph, completely blocking out the carrier's face. I also like the children patiently waiting for their balloon. I think the photo also kind of represents the concept of a child's attention...how when you have something they want, like something bright and fun, that's all they can think about: you are just the faceless bearer of what they are trying to get.

"Noteless Melodies"
I like the shallow depth of field in this photograph, that sort of draws the eye to the boy in the middle-left playing the drums. I like the black and white that all kind of blend around the subjects' faces. I also like the facial expressions on most of the people in the photograph, as if they are either completely happy with or completely engrossed in what they are doing.

"Sugar Smirk"
This is the same boy from before, still having fun, but slightly more content now after getting a balloon and candy. I like the little happy smirk on his face as he eats a Tootsie Roll, and watches the last portion of the parade. I also like the lighting, and the way the people are small and distant in the background.

"The Rush"
Although you cannot see their faces very well, my favorite part about this photograph is the stance and eager lunges of the children as they dive for candy. I also really like the motion of the one subjects' beads as he stoops to gather more of everything.

"Quittin' Time"
I included this one last, because there is no movement and no faces. I like the angle, and the position of the piles of candy. I also like the shallow depth of field, as the first pile is a little bit more blurry, and the second pile s more saturated with color and in focus. I like the consistency of the red and yellow coloring as well between the boy's clothes and the candy pile next to him. Finally, I just like the feel the photograph has of a the rewards of a long day of hard work.
